What You Need to Know
Starting something new can bring up a lot of questions. That’s why I’ve put together answers to the things people ask most about Sweet Pace Fitness.
Whether you’re curious about how it works, what to expect, or how I support your unique goals, I’ve got you covered.
What is Sweet Pace Fitness?
Sweet Pace Fitness is a personal training experience built on compassion, collaboration, and joy, not intimidation. It’s one-on-one personalized coaching that meets you where you are, both physically and emotionally, and helps you move toward better health at your own pace.
Where do the training sessions take place?
Training sessions take place wherever you feel most comfortable. That could be your home, a local park, your backyard, or a gym you already use. We work together to choose a location that supports your goals and fits your lifestyle.
As a Master Gardener and Master Composter, I especially enjoy incorporating outdoor spaces like gardens and parks into training when possible, connecting movement with nature.
How long are the sessions?
Sessions are 45 minutes long, just enough time to challenge your body and uplift your spirit without feeling overwhelmed or rushed.
Do I need to be “fit” before I start?
Absolutely not. Sweet Pace Fitness is designed for all bodies and all starting points. Whether you’re just beginning or returning to movement after a long pause, this is a safe and empowering space to begin your journey.
To help ensure your safety, you’ll be asked to complete a PAR-Q+ (Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire) after our discovery chat. This short form helps identify any health concerns that might require medical clearance before starting.
You can preview the form here: https://eparmedx.com/
Note: If the PAR-Q+ indicates you’re good to go, no further steps are needed. If it flags any concerns, a doctor’s written approval will be required before we begin.
What if I’m nervous or unsure about what I need?
That’s completely okay and very common. Many clients don’t know exactly what they need at first. That’s why I offer a free discovery call so we can talk about your goals, your story, and what’s possible together.
Do I need equipment?
No. I can design a powerful and effective session using just your body, gravity, and whatever space you’re in. If you do have equipment, we can incorporate it, but it’s never required.
What makes Sweet Pace Fitness different from a typical gym or trainer?
I offer a compassionate and non-intimidating alternative to the typical “no pain, no gain” fitness culture. This is not about pushing through discomfort or competing with others. It’s about reconnecting with your body, honoring your pace, and building strength and confidence with care and support.
If I purchase a 3, 6, or 12-session package, how quickly do I need to use the sessions?
You get to decide what works best for you. Some clients prefer to meet multiple times a week, while others spread their sessions out over several months. There’s no expiration date on your package, and we’ll work together to find a rhythm that supports your goals and your lifestyle.
Do I need a Doctor’s prior approval?
Not necessarily. After the initial discovery chat, you’ll be asked to complete the PAR-Q+ (Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire).
You can find the form here: https://eparmedx.com/
- If your PAR-Q+ results indicate that you are cleared for physical activity, no doctor’s note is required.
- If the results suggest that medical clearance is needed, then a written doctor’s approval is required before we proceed.
Do I need to sign a contract?
Yes, all clients are required to sign a waiver of liability and a coaching agreement before we begin working together. This ensures mutual understanding, outlines responsibilities, and protects both parties.
why do you hold an ace personal training certification and not one from nasm, crossfit, nsca or acsm?
ACE stood out to me personally as the most holistic, inclusive, compassionate, realistic, and empathetic, fully aligned with my core beliefs of finding your individual sweet pace through collaboration over competition and setting realistic goals.
Why do you emphasize collaboration over competition when fitness culture seems to be all about pushing harder and competing?
I am living proof that collaboration with myself and others makes fitness and life not only achievable but sustainable, fulfilling, and even fun. This approach shaped my journey to becoming a Personal Trainer and fuels my passion for creating a strong, compassionate counterculture to the toxic “no pain no gain” mindset that dominates fitness today.
I do not believe in “no pain no gain” and I can back that up with my own story. By choosing collaboration over competition I found my unique Sweet Pace which led to incredible results: sustainable weight loss, meaningful muscle gain, greater physical and emotional resilience, stronger self-esteem, and lasting happiness.
As proof, I lost 50 percent of my unhealthy body fat and gained 10 percent of healthy, awesome muscle mass. My personal Sweet Pace is what keeps me moving forward building strength, endurance, and joy not just for myself but for everyone I work with.
What is your formal educational background and what was your career before becoming a Certified Personal Trainer?
Before becoming a Certified Personal Trainer, I worked primarily in sophisticated heart surgery operating rooms. I operated the heart-lung machine and other circulatory support devices used in open heart surgeries and intensive care treatments for heart and lung failure.
I hold multiple degrees, including qualifications in anesthesia and intensive care nursing, cardiovascular perfusion technology (Germany), and an MBA from Scotland, UK.
What Vermont organizations are you passionate about, contribute to, support, or are affiliated with?
I’m passionate about and involved with a variety of Vermont organizations, including Therapy Dogs of Vermont, the Humane Society, Vermont Community Garden Network, Womenpreneurs of Vermont, VPR, Mercy Connections, Community Gardens of the City of Burlington, Snap Fitness, Colchester Health and Fitness, Shelburne Farms, LilyBud Farm in Hinesburg, Vermont State Parks, Green Mountain Athletic Association, and UVM Extension as a Master Gardener and Master Composter.
